Once your social accounts are connected, you can monitor their status, reconnect expired tokens, and disconnect profiles you no longer need -- all from the account detail page.
Viewing Connection Status
Each account (branch/location) in Rool can have a Facebook and an Instagram connection. To view the status of your social connections:
Navigate to the account you want to manage by selecting it from the sidebar or the Accounts list.
On the account detail page, find the Social Media Connections card.
Each connection displays:
Platform icon -- Facebook (blue) or Instagram (pink).
Status badge -- Indicates whether the connection is Connected, Expired, or Disconnected.
Profile name and avatar -- The name of the connected Facebook Page or Instagram Business Account.
Last synced -- How recently Rool confirmed the connection was active (e.g., "5m ago," "2h ago").
Token expiration date -- When the current access token is set to expire.
Connection Statuses
Status |
What It Means |
|---|---|
Connected |
The connection is active and posts can be published to this platform. |
Expired |
The access token has expired. You must reconnect before you can publish. |
Disconnected |
The connection has been removed. Reconnect to resume publishing. |
Expiration Warnings and Email Notifications
Rool proactively monitors your OAuth tokens so you are never caught off guard by an expired connection.
In-App Warning Banner
When a token is within 7 days of expiring -- or has already expired -- a warning banner appears at the top of the app.
Yellow banner -- One or more connections are expiring soon. You can dismiss this temporarily.
Red banner -- One or more connections have already expired. This banner cannot be dismissed until you reconnect.
The banner shows which accounts and platforms are affected, along with how many days remain before expiration. Click Reconnect Accounts to go directly to the account pages where you can refresh your connections.
Email Notifications
Rool sends email notifications to organization Admins and Editors at key intervals before a token expires:
7 days before expiration
3 days before expiration
1 day before expiration
These emails identify the affected account, platform, and the number of days remaining. No action is needed inside the email -- simply log in to Rool and reconnect the affected account.
Automatic Status Updates
A background job runs every hour to check all social profile tokens. If a token's expiration date has passed, Rool automatically marks that connection as Expired so the status you see is always up to date.
Reconnecting an Expired or Expiring Connection
When a connection is expired or about to expire, reconnecting refreshes the access token so publishing can continue uninterrupted.
Go to the account detail page for the affected account.
In the Social Media Connections card, click Connect Social Accounts.
You will be redirected to Facebook to authorize Rool. Log in and grant the requested permissions.
After authorization, you are returned to Rool. A success message confirms the reconnection.
Reconnecting an existing platform updates the token in place -- it does not create a duplicate connection. Your publishing history and settings are preserved.
Tip: If you have a Facebook Page connected but Instagram is not appearing, make sure an Instagram Business Account is linked to your Facebook Page in Meta Business Suite first, then reconnect.
Disconnecting a Social Profile
If you no longer want to publish to a particular platform from an account, you can disconnect it.
Go to the account detail page for the relevant account.
In the Social Media Connections card, find the platform you want to disconnect.
Click the X button on the right side of that platform's row.
A confirmation dialog appears: "Disconnect [Platform]?" -- review the warning that you will not be able to publish to this platform until you reconnect.
Click Disconnect to confirm.
After disconnecting:
The platform row updates to show a "Not connected" state.
Any posts scheduled for that platform on this account will fail to publish until you reconnect.
The Connect Social Accounts button reappears so you can reconnect at any time.
Disconnecting is a soft action -- your historical data is preserved, and you can reconnect the same platform later without losing your publishing history.
Best Practices
Reconnect before expiration. When you see a yellow warning banner or receive an email notification, reconnect promptly to avoid publishing interruptions.
Check connections after password changes. If you change your Facebook or Instagram password, your Rool connection may become invalid. Reconnect to restore it.
Review connections regularly. If an account is no longer active or a team member leaves, disconnect unused social profiles to keep your workspace tidy.
One connection per platform per account. Each account supports one Facebook Page and one Instagram Business Account. Reconnecting replaces the existing token rather than adding a second connection.
