Adding Media to Posts

Step 2 of the post wizard is Add Media. Here you attach images and videos to your post -- either by uploading new files or selecting existing assets from your library. This step is optional; you can create text-only posts by clicking Continue without adding any media.

Uploading new files

To upload directly from your device:

  1. Click the Upload button in the media step.

  2. Choose one or more files from your device. You can select multiple files at once.

  3. Each file is uploaded and automatically saved to your asset library for future reuse.

  4. Uploaded files appear in the media carousel below the buttons as soon as they finish processing.

A spinner on the Upload button indicates an upload is in progress. You can continue working in other parts of the form once the upload completes.

Supported file types and size limits

Images

JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP, HEIC/HEIF, TIFF, SVG

Files that exceed the size limit or use an unsupported format are rejected with an error message -- other files in the same batch continue uploading normally.

Selecting from your asset library

If your media has already been uploaded, you can pick it from the library instead of uploading again.

  1. Click the Library button to open the Select Assets dialog.

  2. Browse your assets in the grid view. Thumbnails show a preview for images and a video icon for video files.

  3. Click an asset to select it. A blue ring and checkmark confirm your selection. Click again to deselect.

  4. Select as many assets as you need -- a selected count badge in the top-right updates as you go.

  5. Click Select to attach the chosen assets and close the dialog.

Filtering and sorting

The asset picker gives you several ways to find what you need quickly:

  • Search -- Type a file name in the search bar to filter the grid in real time.

  • Scope tabs -- Switch between All, Org, Account, or Drive to narrow the source:

    • All shows every asset you have access to (org-level and account-level combined).

    • Org shows only organization-wide assets shared across all branches.

    • Account shows assets belonging to a specific branch. If you have access to multiple accounts, a dropdown lets you switch between them.

    • Drive lets you browse and import files from a connected Google Drive (see below).

  • Sort -- Use the sort dropdown to order assets by newest, oldest, name (A--Z or Z--A), or file size.

Browsing folders

Your asset library can be organized into folders. Click a folder card to open it. A Back button at the top of the grid takes you to the parent folder.

Importing from Google Drive

If your organization has connected Google Drive, you can import files without downloading them to your device first.

  1. In the asset picker, switch to the Drive tab.

  2. Browse your Google Drive files and select the ones you want.

  3. Click Import & Attach. Rool downloads each file from Drive and adds it to your asset library automatically.

  4. A progress indicator shows the status of each file. Files that have already been imported are skipped to avoid duplicates.

Reviewing selected media

Once you have attached media, a carousel appears showing your selected files.

  • Navigate between items using the left and right arrow buttons on the carousel, or click a thumbnail in the strip below.

  • Preview images at a larger size within the carousel. Videos include a play/pause button so you can review them in place.

  • Remove an item by hovering over it and clicking the red X button in the top-right corner.

Media ordering

When you attach more than one file, a thumbnail strip appears below the main carousel. The order of your media matters -- the first item becomes the cover image for your post.

To change the order, drag a thumbnail by its grip handle and drop it into the desired position. The carousel updates automatically to reflect the new arrangement.

Image optimization

You do not need to resize or compress your images before uploading. Rool's CDN automatically optimizes every image based on where it is displayed:

  • Thumbnails in the asset library and picker are served at a compact size for fast browsing.

  • Previews in the post editor are delivered at a mid-range resolution for comfortable review.

  • Published images are served at full quality to each social platform.

This means you can upload high-resolution originals and Rool handles the rest -- keeping your library browsing snappy while ensuring your published posts look sharp.

Tips

  • Upload early, pick later. Media you upload is saved to your asset library permanently. Use the Library button to reuse the same images across multiple posts without uploading again.

  • Mix images and videos. You can attach both image and video files to the same post.

  • HEIC from iPhone? Rool accepts HEIC and HEIF photos directly -- no need to convert them first.

  • Large videos? Video uploads support files up to 200 MB. Very large or long videos are processed in the background; you will see a processing status while encoding completes.
